Southampton cancel contract of Steve De Ridder by mutual consent
Southampton have cancelled Belgian winger Steve De Ridder's contract by mutual consent.
The 26-year-old played an important role in the club's promotion to the Premier League in 2012, having signed from De Graafschap the previous year.
However, De Ridder found opportunities limited upon the club's return to the top flight and spent time on loan with Bolton last season.
Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino recently revealed that the club were looking to move De Ridder on and his departure was confirmed on Thursday.
A Southampton statement read: "Steve found opportunities limited upon the club's return to the Barclays Premier League last season, and subsequently spent time out on loan with Bolton Wanderers in the Championship.
"The 26-year-old was not a part of the first team's recent pre-season trips to Spain and Austria, featuring for the U21s at Eastleigh and Welling instead, where he started both games to maintain his match fitness.
"The club thanks Steve for his services over the last two seasons, and wishes him well with his future career."
