[Injury Update]: Glen Johnson expected to face a long time on the sidelines.
Liverpool defender Glen Johnson will miss Liverpool’s next two Premier League games due to an ankle injury and could have to face an even longer time on the sidelines.
The right-back sprained his ankle during Liverpool’s meeting with Manchester United on September 1st. The English international has been forced to sit out of both of England’s qualifiers against Moldova on Friday and Ukraine on Tuesday.
Johnson underwent an assessment on his injury at Liverpool’s Melwood training ground, as confirmed by the club last Tuesday.
So far, the club is unsure about the time period for which Johnson could be out, though reports suggest that the 29 year old may have to spend time on the sidelines for atleast up to ten weeks. If this will be the possibility, Johnson will even miss the final two qualifiers for his country against Montenegro and Poland at Wembley in October.
Liverpool have recently gone through great bad luck where the club’s defenders are concerned. In spite of this, they have managed to keep all three clean sheets in their Premier League games.
Left-back Aly Cissokho is said to be out until early October with an ankle injury which was picked up against Notts County in a 4-2 Capital One Cup victory on 27th August. Centre back Kolo Toure is also recovering from a groin problem sustained during the same match.
However Toure is now back in training and will be expected to join the squad travelling to Swansea next Monday.
