Lusi Suarez: I stopped thinking about Arsenal & Madrid weeks ago.
The controversial Uruguayan striker seems to have finally made up his mind…
Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has promised fans that he is 100% focused on the Reds, and will give everything he can this season for the supporters, the Mirror reports.
The 26-year-old publicly declared that he wanted to leave the club to play Champions League football earlier in the summer, and even went as far as accusing manager Brendan Rodgers of breaking promises he had made to him a year ago.
Somehow, Liverpool managed to persuade Suarez to stay, and rebuffed bids from Arsenal and reported interest from Real Madrid.
Suarez though, has only been concentrating on Liverpool for a while now.
“For, me, it has been closed for some time. I made the decision to stay at Liverpool some weeks ago, and I want to stay and work for the team from now on,” said the striker, who bagged 30 goals in all competitions in a brilliant season for the Anfield club.
“I will go back to Liverpool to play, and I hope to be the same player the fans can trust,” he added, ahead of Uruguay’s crucial World Cup qualifiers against Colombia and Peru next week.
Suarez will be impressed by what he’s seen of Liverpool from the stands this year. The Reds sit at the top of the table after winning their opening three matches, while Suarez still has two matches of a ten game ban to sit out for biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic last season.
The Uruguayan will be desperate for his club to finish in the top four at lest this season, and almost certainly will be leaving if they miss out on Europe’s elite competition again.
“I said I wanted to play in the Champions League, but when that didn’t happen, I knew I’d be happy with life to have my future at Liverpool,” he continued.
“It is closed now, and I am comfortable with the decision. I said if there was something good, I would be interested, if not, then I am happy at Liverpool. I can say now I am happy,
“Of course, I am not playing. I just want to concentrate on getting ready to play for Liverpool again.”
Suarez will miss the next two matches against Swansea and Southampton, but will return for a League Cup tie against Manchester United.
If the attacker continues in the same vein of form as he did last season, it won’t take long for the Anfield faithful to forgive him.
