Premier League Strikers In need of a good season

“This is our year” is a phrase often associated with Liverpool fans and their dreams of winning the Premier League title.  Although it is early days, the Reds have made their most convincing start to a season in years, sitting top of the table as the only team to win all three of their games.  The Anfield club, however, are not the only ones in need of a convincing campaign…

Daniel Sturridge
The main reason behind Liverpool’s impressive start to the season, Sturridge, has scored all thee goals in the club’s consecutive 1-0 wins in the league.  As such an integral part of their early success, the 24-year-old has become a firm favourite amongst Reds fans, flourishing in the absence of controversial striker Luis Suarez.  Having never scored more than 11 goals in a Premier League campaign, the England international is well on his way to exceeding that as he finally enjoys a run at the head of a team’s attack.
Darren Bent
Frozen out by Paul Lambert, Bent’s career has stagnated over the last 18 months at Aston Villa.  Suffering a season-ending injury in February last year, the striker was ultimately left out of England’s Euro 2012 squad, with Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson feeling he lacked match fitness.  A return to form in the following Premier League campaign never came, as new Villa manager Lambert had his own ideas which often did not involve the club’s record signing.  Now on a season-long loan at Fulham, Bent will hope for more opportunities to find the net regularly once again.
Danny Graham
A boyhood Newcastle United fan, Graham found himself signing for the Toon's bitter rivals Sunderland on deadline day in January.  The success of Spanish forward Michu at Swansea ultimately led to the striker’s £5 million departure to the Black Cats, who at the time were managed by Martin O’Neill.
Following the Northern Irishman’s sacking at the end of March, Graham’s future was once again uncertain, and new boss Paolo Di Canio has gone on to make wholesale changes to the squad over the summer.  A casualty of the Italian manager’s new regime, Graham remains in the north but on a season-long loan at Hull City.  Having failed to find the net in 11 games for Sunderland, the 28-year-old needs to regain some form during his time with the Tigers.
Sturridge looks good so far, but can he keep it up?  Will Bent play enough to get near his best Premier League tally of 24 goals?  And can Graham ensure that his latest move goes better than his last?
