Liverpool 4-1 West Brom

Brendan Rodgers kept with his three at the back formation, with Lucas Leiva replacing Victor Moses in the only change for The Reds.
Rodgers’ midfield consequently had much better control, with the triangle shape flipped so that Lucas held and Steven Gerrard and Jordan Henderson pressed higher up the pitch.
Henderson in particular was impressive, especially in the first-half. It was almost as though some comments this week had put his back out…
But it was up front where Liverpool were entertaining and impressive. Luis Suarez’s hat-trick was sensational, all three goals of the highest quality.

Arsenal opened up a two-point gap at the top of the Premier League after thrashing Norwich City at home as Manchester United stuttered again in their wobbling title defence.
Sunderland boss Gus Poyet endured an afternoon to forget in his first match in charge, while Steven Gerrard scored a landmark goal as Liverpool drew at Newcastle United.
Manchester City claimed a first away league win of the season after proving too good for West Ham United.
Chelsea striker Samuel Eto'o finally got off the mark in a home win over Cardiff City, Everton edged past Hull City and Stoke City were held at home by West Bromwich Albion.
Arsenal claimed the outright lead in the Premier League as Mesut Ozil scored a second-half brace in a 4-1 win over Norwich at the Emirates Stadium.

Andros Townsend is determined to keep his feet on the ground after scoring in Tottenham Hotspur's 2-0 away win over Aston Villa.

The winger scored on his England debut against Montenegro last week before also impressing in the decisive World Cup qualifying win over Poland on Tuesday.
He was rewarded with a new four-year contract by Spurs on Friday and set his side on their way to three points at Villa Park when his cross curled inside the post on 31 minutes.
Townsend was not taking any credit for the goal and he is anxious not to get carried away after an unforgettable last couple of weeks.

From an avid West Ham supporter

Ok we lost and, if we are honest, we lost pretty heavily, but Man City were pretty bloody good and, our centre backs apart, we were decent. And to be fair to Tomkins and Reid, they were horribly exposed by Man City's quick passing football and excellent movement. Last game, Big Sam thought he was the dog's bollocks, now he understands that his claims to have revolutionised football with his 4-6-0 formation were pure bollocks.

First the goals. Agüero's opener was a bit tasty. True the ball travelled far too far through the middle of our midfield and defence, but the dummy by Negredo was breath-taking. The ball went so close to him that his decision to simply ignore it would have bemused Moore and Beckenbauer, never mind Tomkins and Reid. Agüero's run was perfectly timed and Reid was still on New Zealand time as the Argentinian ran in on Jussi and buried the chance superbly.

[Match Report]: Swansea cruise past Sunderland with second-half show

A flurry of second-half goals ensured a miserable start to life in the Premier League for Gus Poyet, as Swansea were 4-0 winners at home to Sunderland.
The visitors enjoyed their share of the early possession and the best chance of the first half fell to Steven Fletcher, whose half-volley just evaded the post.
Swansea came closest to breaking the deadlock through a Jonathan de Guzman free-kick, but his curling effort from distance was unable to find the top corner.
After an evenly-matched start to the second half, the Swans eventually took the lead on 57 minutes when De Guzman's corner was inadvertently turned into his own net by Phil Bardsley.

Arsenal 3 Stoke 1
Victory left the Gunners two points in front of both Chelsea and Liverpool, though north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur will join them on 12 points if they win away to Cardiff later on Sunday.Arsenal went to the top of the English Premier League table after a 3-1 victory at home to Stoke on Sunday.
Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey, who suffered a potentially career-threatening leg injury following a poor tackle by Stoke’s Ryan Shawcross three years ago, made it seven goals in eight games when he gave Arsenal a fifth-minute lead at the Emirates Stadium with a close-range strike after Potters goalkeeper Asmir Begovic had palmed away a Mesut Ozil free-kick.
Stoke, however, were back on level terms when United States international Geoff Cameron scored his first goal for the club in the 26th minute with a controlled shot from the edge of the box after Marko Arnautovic’s volley had come back off the post.
Arsenal though were 2-1 up before half-time through centre-back Per Mertesacker’s looping header.
Bacary Sagna then scored his first goal in 19 months as Arsenal again made Stoke pay for failing to defend a set-piece when he headed home in the 72nd minute from another free-kick by STG42.4 million ($A72.48 million) club record signing Ozil, the Germany international producing a sparkling display on his Gunners’ home debut.
In Sunday’s other early kick-off match, Swansea won 2-0 away to Crystal Palace with Michu putting the Welsh club in front in just the second minute before Nathan Dyer added a second goal shortly after half-time.

Manchester United boss David Moyes says signings not needed after Liverpool loss

David Moyes felt there were enough positives in Manchester United's performance against Liverpool for him not to be too worried if they fail to make any signings on deadline day.
United suffered a 1-0 defeat at Anfield as Daniel Sturridge's early goal proved to be the difference between the sides.
Despite losing his unbeaten record as United manager, Moyes insisted after the final whistle that it was the best he had seen his side play since taking charge.

Liverpool 1-0 Manchester United: Daniel Sturridge strike keeps up impressive start for Brendan Rodgers' side

Daniel Sturridge's third goal in as many matches gave Liverpool a 1-0 win over bitter rivals Manchester United in a feisty Premier League match at Anfield on Sunday.

On a day when Liverpool celebrated 100 years since the birth of legendary former manager Bill Shankly, Sturridge lifted the crowd further when he flicked in Daniel Agger's header from close range in the fourth minute.

Champions United, without striker Wayne Rooney after a training-ground incident left him with a bad cut on his forehead, rarely threatened to equalise despite dominating possession in the second half.

LONDON - Manchester City avoided another blip against a Premier League newcomer on Saturday, although without coming close to replicating the scintillating performing from in its opening match.

Alvaro Negredo's header and Yaya Toure's late free kick gave the 2012 champions an unconvincing 2-0 victory over Hull.

After starting the season with an electrifying 4-0 rout of Newcastle, City lost at Cardiff last weekend to drop points early in its bid to reclaim the title from Manchester United.

United is in action at Liverpool on Sunday when Arsenal hosts Tottenham in the north London derby.

The much-anticipated meeting between Manchester United and Chelsea ended in anti-climax as Old Trafford witnessed its first goalless draw in the Premier League since May 2009.
David Moyes was taking charge of his first competitive home game since succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson as Manchester United manager, while Jose Mourinho had his sights sets on a third successive league win since returning to Chelsea.
In the end, despite an outstanding performance for United by the recalled Wayne Rooney, both Moyes and Mourinho had to settle for a point in the first blank scoreline here in 77 Premier League games, since United clinched the title against Arsenal in 2009.

Branislav Ivanovic powered in a second-half header as Chelsea won a feisty game against Aston Villa.

Chelsea made it two wins out of two to go top of the Premier League table as they defeated a resilient Aston Villa side 2-1 at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues hit eight past Villa in the corresponding fixture last season and were quickly into their stride again as Antonio Luna scored an own goal in the seventh minute following good work by Eden Hazard.

Roberto Soldado scored the winning goal on his debut to secure an opening day 1-0 victory for Tottenham Hotspur against Crystal Palace. The Spain striker made no mistake from the penalty spot early in the second half after Dean Moxey had handled a cross from Aaron Lennon inside the area. Soldado sent Julian Speroni the wrong way to claim his first competitive goal in a Spurs shirt and give Andre Villas-Boas' side the perfect start to the season.

As well as Soldado, the Spurs head coach named two of his other new signings - Nacer Chadli and Paulinho - in the starting line-up while Etienne Capoue had to settle for a place on the substitutes’ bench. Marouane Chamakh, signed from Arsenal a week ago, was not deemed fit enough to start by Palace manager Ian Holloway so was named of the bench with new signings Dwight Gayle and Stephen Dobbie given the job of leading the line alongside Aaron Wilbraham.

Jose Mourinho made a winning return to the Chelsea dugout as his side beat Hull City 2-0 at Stamford Bridge in the Barclays Premier League.

Frank Lampard was denied the first goal of the Portuguese's comeback when Allan McGregor saved his early penalty, but Chelsea were ahead shortly after when Oscar completed a flowing move with a poked finish. The hosts' lead was doubled by Lampard when he smashed home a free-kick from distance to set up a second half in which Premier League new-boys Hull battled valiantly to stay in touch with their opponents.

Mourinho handed starts to two stalwarts of his first spell at the club, with John Terry and Lampard returning at centre-back and in central midfield respectively. Hull manager Steve Bruce abandoned the 3-5-2 formation that served his side so well in Championship last season to deploy a 4-3-3 set-up with loanee striker Danny Graham leading the line.
